Terms of Service
Last updated: 8 October 2026
These terms are an agreement between you and Andrew Pope, an individual based in the Netherlands, who runs Yarnable. They apply to the Yarnable website at yarnable.app and the Yarnable app for iPhone, iPad, and Android. By creating an account or using Yarnable you agree to them. How we handle your data is set out in the Privacy Policy.
Nothing in these terms affects your statutory rights as a consumer, including your rights under the laws of the country where you live.
1. Who can use Yarnable
Yarnable is for parents, guardians, and other adults who make stories for children. You must be at least 18 to create an account. Children may read and listen to stories you make, but they must not hold an account. You are responsible for what you enter and for how the children in your care use the stories.
Keep your sign-in details secure. You are responsible for activity on your account. If you think someone else has used it, email support@yarnable.app.
2. The service
Yarnable uses AI to turn a child’s idea into an illustrated audiobook. Every story is generated fresh, so it can contain mistakes or things you did not ask for. Section 7 explains the safety checks and their limits. You can edit a story, and you can delete it from your library at any time.
Features, AI providers, voices, and languages will change as Yarnable develops. Section 4 covers credit costs and story lengths. If we remove a paid feature that is central to your plan, we will tell you in advance and you may cancel.
3. Plans and purchases
Paid plans (subscriptions) and credit packs are sold through the Apple App Store or Google Play. Your purchase is also governed by that store’s terms (Apple, Google Play), and the store handles payment, renewal, cancellation, and refunds. Prices are shown in the app before you buy.
- Subscriptions renew automatically at the end of each billing period until you cancel in your Apple ID or Google Play subscription settings. Cancelling keeps your plan until the end of the period you have paid for.
- Some plans offer a free trial or introductory price, as described in the app at the time. Unless you cancel before the trial or introductory period ends, the plan continues at the normal price.
- If we change the price of a subscription, the store will notify you before it applies, and you can cancel before the new price takes effect.
- Refunds are requested from Apple or Google, including any statutory cooling-off period. If a store refunds a subscription period, stories created during that period are removed from your library and deleted after 14 days unless you subscribe again.
4. Credits
Making a story, adding a reference photo, editing a story, and some other actions use credits. Credits have no cash value. You cannot exchange them for money or transfer them to another account, and they are only for use in Yarnable.
How you get credits
- Plan credits are granted each billing period (or each month on an annual plan). Unused plan credits do not roll over: they expire when the next grant arrives or when your plan ends.
- Trial credits expire when the trial ends.
- Pack credits, bought as a one-off purchase, do not expire. We use plan credits before pack credits.
What things cost
Before you confirm, the app shows how many credits a story or action will cost. That quote is what you pay for that action. The Support page lists our current credit costs.
When credits are returned
Credits pay for the work of creating a story or edit, which starts as soon as you confirm. We return credits only when that work fails:
- If something goes wrong on our side and the story or edit is not created, we return the credits automatically.
- If our content checks decline a request, we return the credits for that request.
- If a story is created but its pictures or narration fail, you can retry them without using more credits.
Results vary from story to story. We do not return credits for a story that was created successfully but is not to your taste, or because you changed your mind after confirming. You can edit it or create a new one, which uses credits as quoted.
This does not affect your legal rights if a story is faulty. If a story is missing chapters, is not in the language you chose, or its pictures or audio cannot be shown or played and retrying does not fix it, contact us and we will fix it or return the credits.
Changes to credit costs and stories
We can change what a story or action costs in credits, how long stories are and how many chapters they have, and how many credits a plan or pack includes. These changes can happen without notice, usually because AI provider costs have moved or a feature has changed. They only ever apply going forward:
- A change applies only to stories and actions you start after it. It never changes a story or edit already in progress, a story already in your library, or a quote you have already confirmed.
- Credits already in your account keep their balance. We do not take credits back because a cost changed.
- The app always shows the current cost before you confirm, and the Support page lists current credit costs.
- If an increase significantly reduces what your unused pack credits can buy, contact us within 30 days of the change. We will either add credits to make up the difference or help you request a refund from the store.
Changes to the price of a subscription itself are covered in section 3.
5. Your content
“Your content” means the ideas, names, photos, voice recordings, and other material you give us, and the stories, illustrations, and narration Yarnable creates for you. As between you and us, you own your content, and we assign to you any rights we have in the stories we create for you.
You give us permission to store, process, and send your content to our AI providers only so that we can run Yarnable for you, as described in our Privacy Policy. We do not use your content to advertise to you, and we do not train our own models on it.
You may use your stories for personal, non-commercial purposes, such as reading them at home, sharing them with family and friends, or playing them on your Yoto player. If you want to use them commercially, for example by selling them or publishing them, please ask us first. Because AI-generated material may not be protected by copyright everywhere, we cannot promise that you can stop others from copying a story.
6. Acceptable use
You agree not to use Yarnable to:
- create anything unlawful or unsuitable for children, such as sexual, hateful, or violent content;
- upload a photo of anyone, or a voice recording, without the right to do so. You must have permission from the person in a photo or recording, or from their parent or guardian if they are a child;
- copy characters, stories, or artwork that belong to someone else in a way that breaks their rights;
- get around credit limits, plan limits, rate limits, or content filters, or access the service by automated means we have not authorised;
- interfere with, reverse engineer, or attack Yarnable or the services it relies on.
Our automated checks may decline a request that breaks these rules. If you break these terms seriously or repeatedly, we may suspend or close your account. Where we can, we will tell you why first and give you a chance to respond.
7. Safety and copyright
Yarnable is made for children’s stories, so we check content automatically at several points:
- What you ask for.Before we write anything, we check your idea, story details, title changes, and edit requests. We turn down requests that are harmful (for example sexual, graphic, hateful, or self-harm content), that try to get around our safeguards, or that clearly copy someone else’s characters or stories.
- What we write. Our story writer is instructed to keep stories suitable for the age band you choose. Every completed story, and every edited story, is checked again for safety, copyright, and age suitability before you can read it. If it does not pass, we may rewrite it once automatically, or decline it and return your credits.
- What the app suggests. Story ideas and character descriptions that Yarnable writes for you are checked in the same way.
The checks are automated, so they will sometimes miss something or turn down something harmless. Pictures and narration are made from the checked story and are not checked separately. Read or listen to a story yourself before you share it with a child, and tell us about anything unsuitable using Report an issue in the app or by emailing support@yarnable.app. We review reports and remove content that breaks these terms.
We take steps to avoid creating stories that copy other people’s work, but we cannot guarantee that a story, illustration, or narration will never resemble existing copyrighted material, characters, or trademarks. This is one reason stories are for personal, non-commercial use (section 5). If you believe a story infringes your rights, email us and we will look into it promptly and remove it where appropriate.
8. Custom voices
On plans that include custom voices, you may record a voice sample to narrate your stories. You must only record your own voice, or a voice whose owner has given you permission. You must not use a custom voice to imitate or deceive anyone. You can delete a custom voice at any time in Settings.
9. Third-party services
Yarnable connects to services run by other companies, such as Apple, Google, and Yoto. Your use of those services is governed by their terms. We are not responsible for them, but we will help where we can.
10. Ending your account
You can delete your account at any time in the app (Settings) or on the website (Account). Deleting your account permanently removes your stories and any unused credits, including pack credits. It does not cancel an App Store subscription, so cancel that in your Apple ID settings to avoid further charges. Signing up again does not restore free credits already granted, or an introductory offer already used on your Apple ID or Google account.
We may close Yarnable or stop offering it in your country. If we do, we will give you at least 30 days’ notice and stop charging for credits you cannot use. Where you have paid for a period you can no longer use, you can ask the store for a refund, and we will support that request.
11. Our responsibility to you
We provide Yarnable with reasonable care and skill. We cannot promise that it will always be available or free of errors, and we may pause it for maintenance.
We are responsible for loss or damage you suffer that is a foreseeable result of our breaking these terms or failing to use reasonable care. We are not responsible for loss that was not foreseeable, or for business losses, because Yarnable is for personal use.
Nothing in these terms limits our liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud, or for anything else that the law does not allow us to limit.
12. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms, for example when the law changes or when we change Yarnable. If a change materially affects you, we will tell you in the app or by email before it takes effect. If you do not agree, you can stop using Yarnable and delete your account. Credit-cost changes follow section 4.
13. Law and disputes
These terms are governed by the laws of the Netherlands. If you live elsewhere in the EU or in the UK, you also keep the protection of the mandatory consumer laws of your country, and you can bring a claim in your local courts.
If something goes wrong, contact us first and we will try to put it right. EU consumers can also use their national consumer dispute-resolution bodies.
